Reflectance spectroscopy is used to characterise objects and materials. By comparing the reflected light to the light used for illumination, colours can be determined or for instance, the water content in the object under investigation.


Depending on the reflectance application and setup required, a wide variety of lightsources, accessories, fibre optic probes and spectrometers can be chosen offering a tailored solution for virtually any application.


When light hits a surface of a material it will either be reflected, absorbed or transmitted through the material (or a combination of the three). The reflectance of this light will depend on the structure and the material properties of the object.  Thanks to the reflectance of light, we are able to see colour and objects.

Transmission  Measurements

When the measurement object is more transparent (for instance filters, glass or fluids), the amount of reflected light is fairly low and one can better switch to a transmission measurement.

Using transmission spectroscopy, you can measure the light passing through the object  in comparison to the emitted light. Usually, a parallel light beam is used (created with collimating lenses) for these measurements. The setup of a transmission measurement resembles an absorbance measurement, except the results are displayed on a percentage scale rather a logarithmic one.


Multichannel capabilities make it possible to make continuous reflection and transmission measurements in the range of 200-2500nm.
