Small Immersion Transmission Probes
In applications where access is limited or only a small OD can be accommodated, we offer our Mini Immersion Transmission probes.
The operating principle is exactly the same as the larger probes in the range except with a much smaller body of only 3.2mm diameter, and a choice of either standard 6x illumination and 1 read fibre, or 1x illumination and 1x read fibre configurations.. The pathlength is fixed rather than variable, but can be changed by simply using a different tip (sold separately) with a longer/shorter gap to create a longer/shorter pathlength which offers good flexibility to optimise the setup in online and inline absorbance measurements in fluids.
When dipping or permanently mounting the probe end into the fluid, absorbance can be measured. A standard SMA905 connector is used to couple light into a fibre bundle, which typically is a bundle consisting of six fibres (other configurations available upon request). The light is transmitted to the probe end, where it crosses a predetermined gap and is then reflected against a diffuse white reflective material (or mirror) back into the receiving read fibre, which is coupled to a spectrometer on the second leg of the probe.
The read fibre is placed in the centre of the illumination fibre bundle to provide the best collection efficiency for the probe.
Both bundles are housed in flexible stainless steel jacketing and the probe tip is also made of stainless steel. At the mid point of the assembly, a ferrule is used to split the fibres into their respective legs (illumination and read) which are terminated in SMA905 connectors.
